FAQs

Everything you need to know before you book.

Which is better for pottery — ClassBento or CraftCourses?

ClassBento is better for taster sessions in cities (especially London) — large selection, easy booking, and their money-back guarantee is great for gifts. CraftCourses is better for multi-week courses and rural studios — it lists more independent makers and has wider UK coverage outside London. See our full ClassBento vs CraftCourses comparison →

What should I expect in my first pottery class?

Most taster sessions start with a short demo before you get your hands on the clay. Wheel-throwing is harder than it looks — centring the clay is the main challenge and takes most beginners several sessions to get comfortable with. Hand-building (coiling, pinching, slab work) is easier to pick up immediately. Budget 2–3 hours and wear clothes you don't mind getting clay on.

Is clay and firing included in pottery class prices?

It varies. ClassBento listings almost always include clay, tools, glazing and kiln firing in the advertised price. CraftCourses varies by provider — check the individual listing. When in doubt, message the studio before booking.

Can I do a pottery class alone, or do I need to go with someone?

Solo bookings are absolutely fine and common for both ClassBento and CraftCourses. Most taster sessions are mixed groups of 6–12 people. If you want a private session, search for "private pottery class" — expect to pay £30–£60 more.

How long until I get my finished piece from a pottery class?

Kiln firing takes 1–4 weeks after your class, depending on the studio. Most London ClassBento studios fire within 2 weeks. CraftCourses providers vary. Your finished, glazed piece is usually posted or available for collection.
