FAQs

Everything you need to know before you book.

Is knitting or crochet easier to learn first?

Most people find crochet marginally easier to start — one hook, one active stitch, and no risk of stitches sliding off. Knitting uses two needles and keeping track of tension on multiple stitches takes practice. That said, knitting produces a more elastic fabric and many people find the rhythm more meditative once they've got it. Try both before committing — see our Domestika combo course.

How much does it cost to start knitting?

A starter kit — a pair of 5mm needles, one ball of Aran yarn, and a blunt tapestry needle — costs about £10–£15 from Hobbycraft or Amazon. An online beginner course on Domestika adds another £7.99. So you can be up and running for under £25. Browse Domestika knitting courses →

Can you learn to knit from an online course?

Yes — knitting is very learnable from video. The key is finding a course with close-up camera work that clearly shows hand position and needle movement. Domestika's production quality is excellent for this. You'll need someone (or a video) to show you how to cast on; after that, most people can follow at their own pace.
