What happens in a glass blowing taster

A standard 2-hour taster follows the same format across all UK studios. After a safety briefing and demonstration, you gather molten glass from the furnace on a blowpipe and — with close instructor guidance — blow and shape your piece. The glass must be kept warm in the glory hole between steps, so there's no stopping once you start. The instructor controls the heat; your job is to blow, rotate, and shape. Your finished piece goes into the annealing oven overnight and reaches you by post within 1–2 weeks.

Manchester tip: Studios in the Northern Quarter and Ancoats are smaller and more intimate than some larger London venues — you get more hands-on time per person. Weekday sessions are usually smaller groups.
